After a miserable experience with Americast sinks, I was careful to do my homework before selecting a replacement. The Blanco brand overall has received a lot of good feedback from people on review/chat boards, and the Silgranit in particular has been well received.

I'll add my voice to the Silgranit supporters - this is one fantastic sink! The color is wonderful - looks great and so easy to keep clean. I've been using the Blanco cleaner and it works well, but they say in their documentation that you can use any nonabrasive cleaner with good results, and use Bar Keepers Friend for stubborn stains.

Very easy to install. The sink weighs about 45 pounds, so it's not a chore to lift into place. I mounted it as a drop in, but you can also mount it as an undermount. Really like that the rim is flat so when mounted as a drop in you can use the back rim to hold items (like a brush/scrubber holder) without it falling off. I'll never regret buying this big, deep, black beauty. I can get the grungies almost all the way into it-- filled with hot soapy water for cleaning. You know, the awful greasy filter over the stove and those nasties from under the refrigerator. They start to smell after awhile, but now I can clean them easily in this big deep and wide baby!! And being black, it never shows dirt or stains! So long to all the scratches and marks on my old stainless steel sinks.

This sink is everything you expect. It's gigantic, almost 10" deep, and except for being slightly wider than a standard 33" opening the installation was simple. I replaced an existing sink and had no issues, the whole process took only a few hours (remember, I am NOT a plumber and had never done this before). Having previously purchased a black Thermocast sink from Home Depot I was hesitant to get another in a similar color. However, where the HD sink was easily stained, scratched, and constructed of [basically] fiberglass, this Blanco sink feels exactly like granite. The "Anthracite" color is a little towards the gray end of the color palette, but I have it next to a deep black double oven so that may be misleading. I believe anyone looking for a black sink would be more than satisfied with this sink.

Couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Here are some facts:

1. This unit replaced a Badger-1 disposal which had come with our house when we bought it new in 2004. I didn't even know what type we had until I took it out. We had been happy with the Badger but it eventually stopped working. Doing some research after-the-fact, I learn the Badger-1 only has a 1/3 hp motor and 1 year warranty. The Waste King L-8000 has a full 1 hp motor and a lifetime (non-transferable) warranty.

2. Though the Badger-1 only had 1/3 of the power of the L-8000, the Waste King was actually quieter. We didn't think either of them was loud, but the Waste King was even quieter.

3. There are basically two types of disposal mounts nowadays. If you have an existing disposal, the odds are nearly 100% that it's installed utilizing either a 3-bolt mount system or the EZ mount system. Quiet and fast. Has stopper that really works. Small bin makes accidents less likely, and I have not dropped any tableware in yet.
One thing that you must do. Before turning the lock ring in the final step of installation, don't forget to soap up the rubber gasket. If you don't, you will be sorry. It is not an option as implied by the instructions.

I have been using this product for almost 6 months now and it is great. After installation, I have taken its flawless performance for granted. It was substantially larger than the small wimpy disposal that came with our house, but also surprisingly quieter; more like the guttural growl of a menacing bulldog than a loud but harmless chihuahua.

A couple of pieces of advice - make sure it will fit under your sink (it barely fit under mine), and create an outlet to plug it into instead of trying to directly wire it since it comes with a plug you would have to otherwise cut out.

I am a high end kitchen designer with 25 yrs experience in $50,000+ renovations.I have designed a High End but reasonably priced line of faucets. This is the hottest trend in High End kitchens- the restaurant look with Pre Rinse Spray. You could only get these from KWC, Blanco, Elkay & Franke, but these units sell for $1000-$2000!

I went right to the manufacturer to make me units to use in my intallations. Solid brass, with a Stainless Steel spring. I use a European ceramic cartridge -the FINEST in the industry - rated for 500,000 uses!
3 Hole Sinks Require an Available Coverplate

Fits all Std Countertops. 1 3/8" Hole. The max. height is 29". The spout reach is 7.5".

I've seen many "similar" faucets sold on online auction sites that claim they are the "same" as these- These are much nicer than anything else online . Yes.. they cost a little more, but you wont be disappointed.

A few differences:

1. Lead levels in Brass: All brass has lead. It makes brass more malleable & easier to work. Low Lead Brass is very expensive, and harder to work with. The FDA allows 8% Lead content in Brass that comes in contact with potable water . Most US/Euro Brass is 6-7% Lead Brass. Chinese Brass is between 8-11% Lead. We found the ONLY foundry in China supplying Low Lead Brass- actually 3%- about 75% less lead than is commonly available in China. This DOUBLED my wholesale price , but I know if it was my family they wouldn't be drinking from a faucet with that much lead.

2. The cartridge. The Asians have not been able to produce a high quality ceramic cartridge. I imported the highest quality European Ceramic Cartridge that I install in these myself. Its the same company that supplies them for KWC, Moen, Franke etc.

3. The hoses. It makes me crazy installing a faucet that comes with little 6-12" hoses that don't reach the water valves. You end up having to purchase adapters and supply lines to hook them up. I supply 24" Hoses with your faucet.

I bought this item (chrome model) because I thought it would make clean up work in our kitchen easier. I was wrong, it made clean up FUN....really, this faucet's spray attachment does just what the ones in restaurant kitchens does, ie, removes nearly all residue fast. The faucet is high enough to allow you to put nearly anything under it. Thanks to the manufacturer/importer who came up with this reasonably priced tool...
